At the Smiling Grape we love our wines from France - that's why were are smiling all the time!  Here is a juicy selection of some of our favourites from the South!

Les Betes Rousses Blanc From Les Producteurs Reunis comes Les Bêtes Rousses (red beasts) a name given by the local hunters to juvenile wild boar, a delicacy of the area in Gascogny   A wine of freshness and personality, this white is a blend of 60% Ugni Blanc, 30% Gros Manseng and 10% Colombard.  Ideal as an aperitif and will match with light fare, seafood and poultry.


Jean des Vignes Blanc A blend of ugni blanc and colombard grape varieties the wine is dry and pale straw in colour.  With aromas of orchard fruit and some citrus notes, the medium bodied palate is quite intense, smooth and fresh with good fruit and length.  A versatile wine that will partner seafood, chicken and white meat dishes, particularly grilled.


Claude Val Blanc '6 Cepages' Paul Mas This white wine being 35% Grenache Blanc, 25% Vermentino, 15% Chasan, 10% Sauvignon Blanc,10% Mauzac and  5% Chenin Blanc.  Each varietal is vinified separately.  The resulting wine is fresh and fruity with an intriguing blend of green and tropical notes. Quite creamy on the palate, with a nicely balanced fresh finish, it  is a good match with white meats and mild curries.


Les Betes Rousses Rouge From Les Producteurs Reunis comes Les Bêtes Rousses (red beasts) a name given by the local hunters to juvenile wild boar, a delicacy of the area in Gascony.  This red is a blend of 70% Carignan, 20% Grenache and 10% Merlot and is charming and fruity. Will match well with red meats, grills and cheeses or simply sip on its own.


Peyrasse Grenache Syrah A blend of Grenache (60%) and Syrah (40%)  It has a full red colour, a spicy, blackcurrant nose and rich deep fruit on the smooth palate framed by gentle tannins.  Ideal with grilled meats.


Claude Val Rouge 4 Cepages Paul Mas A glorious youthful deep red in colour, the nose is brambly and rich, with raspberry and spice notes. The palate has sweet generous fruit, with hints of anise, before a gentle, spicy finish. Match with grilled chicken, pork or lamb and grilled vegetables or stuffed bell peppers and medium strength cheeses.
